WAX, CARNAUBA
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in lieu of Federal Specification JJJ-W-141, Grade A, Type 1, refined.
This commercial item description covers refined carnauba wax.
Salient characteristics:
Material. The wax shall be hard, amorphous, brittle, nontacky, material produced by exudation of wax palm leaves known botanically as Copernica Cerifera (Brazil).
Chemical characteristic. Carnauba wax shall conform to the chemical characteristics shown in the table 1 when tested in accordance with the applicable ASTM rest method. Additionally, the refined carnauba wax shall match the infra-red spectra in figure 1 exactly at 1736 um-1, 1473 um-1, 730 um-1, and 719 um-1 wave numbers.
Intended use: Carnauba wax is intended for use in polishes, finishes, cosmetics, lubricants, inks, protective coatings, medicinals, and as a food additive.
